SAALBACH - SKI AREA

Ski Specials

Saalbach Ski Area

The slopes are spread across north and south-facing mountainsides with lifts and runs that connect Saalbach and Hinterglemm via both sides. There is a tremendous ski selection – spread out from the very start of the valley to as far as the eye can see. There is enough challenge to suit most skiers – Saalbach is more wide-open and forgiving, whilst Hinterglemm offers more challenging ski areas.

A splendid lift system makes it possible to ski from one village to another with ease. It is also possible to ski to the resorts on the opposite side of the mountain down to the village of Leogang.

Beginners

Saalbach’s two nursery slopes are well positioned – they are situated right next to the village centre. There is also a large number of nursery slopes in Saalbach and Hinterglemm immediately above both villages, which cater for beginners. Improved beginners can cruise the long blue run from the top of the Zwolfer all the way down into Hinterglemm. On the same side of the valley there is also another great long blue run from the Schattberg Oest down into Vorderglemm, almost 7 km. Another delightful run is on the Bernkogel Mountain down into Saalbach.

Intermediates

Intermediates will be in ski heaven. The area is ideal for the piste basher and the leisurely cruiser. There are a massive number of blue and red runs to choose from. Intermediates can ski the entire ski area in a great big circle, up, down and across the valley. Those looking for more of a challenge, the direct routes from Hochalm, Reiterkogel and Kohlmaiskopf are good fun.

Experts

The most challenging runs are found on the north-facing side of the valley.

The long (4km) run beneath the Schattberg Cable car is a truly black run and is great first thing in the morning.

Snowboarding

Saalbach is great for boarding. Slopes are extensive (lifts are mainly chairs and gondolas, though there are some connecting drags). There are pistes that appeal to beginners, intermediates and experts alike. There is excellent off-piste terrain, a large fun park on the north facing slopes just above Hinterglemm as well as another great fun park in Leogang. There are dedicated carving tracks for boarders and skiers.
